Ella Blackthorn

Ella Blackthorn is a British novelist who published her first book, *Charlotte and Me*, in 2023, followed by *Deceptive Hearts* in 2024. Writing stories and poetry has always been her passion. In the late 1980s, she wrote scripts for a television soap opera and had some of her poetry included in an anthology.
In addition to writing, Ella is an historian and archaeologist. She  earned her BA and MA in Historical Archaeology from the University of York in her early 50s. She have a particular interest in the 19th century, focusing on workhouses and asylums, as well as the biographies of the women and children who lived in those oppressive and frightening institutions.
Ella grew up in York, where she has lived for most of her life. Her books are inspired by the areas from her childhood and the places she has worked. Over the years, She has held a variety of jobs, including Editor-in-Chief of the Archaeology journal at the University of York, rare-breed sheep farmer, home carer, administrator, and charity worker.
She self-published her first two novels before signing a three-book deal with Provoco Publishing. Her first book with Provoco, a cosy crime, murder mystery will be published in early 2026. The novel is based in Yorkshire and the Lake District but that's all we're telling you at the moment!
